STATEN ISLAND, NY — “Friends of Postcards” announced today their official formation as a group dedicated to beautifying the September 11th Postcards Memorial plaza and the surrounding areas and advocating for both Postcards and the First Responders memorial. The group was founded by Victoria Cerullo, Dominick R. DeRubbio, Suzanne Klein, Amy E. Rice, and Alex Zablocki. Dominick R. DeRubbio will serve as the Executive Director of the group.

“Friends of Postcards is dedicated to improving Staten Island’s September 11th Postcards and First Responders Memorial which honors the heroes lost on September 11th and those that lost their lives battling illness since. Many thanks to Staten Island Borough President James Oddo and his staff for acting as the stewards of this memorial. From the annual September 11th ceremony, maintenance, advocacy, and to the adding of additional victim names on the First Responders Memorial, the Borough President and his office have shown nothing less than compassion and dedication to an area that means so much to so many people,” the founders of the organization said. “Friends of Postcards will work tirelessly to preserve the story of Staten Islanders lost on September 11, 2001, and since due to illness and encourage others to help us with this cause. May we never forget,” the founders concluded.

Friends of Postcards will hold its next volunteer event on Sunday, August 25th at 9 a.m. at the September 11th Postcards and First Responders Memorial in St. George, Staten Island. The volunteer event will include raking of woodchips, weeding, cleanup of the plaza, and planting. The closest entrance to the memorial is at the intersection of Hamilton Avenue and Richmond Terrace next to the Richmond County Ballpark. More information can be obtained by visiting www.friendsofpostcards.nyc or emailing friendsofpostcards@gmail.com. Friends of Postcards can also be found on Facebook at Friends of Postcards.
